Phrasal verbs juga digolongkan dari transitive dan intransitive, atau kata kerja yang memerlukan objek dan kata kerja yang tidak memerlukan objek. Kata kerja transitive adalah kata kerja yang memerlukan objek sebagai pelengkapnya. Kata kerja transitive tidaklah lengkap atau memiliki makna yang sempurna jika tidak diikuti oleh objek.
